I was a part of the UHP Discover program in the summer of 2022. I worked with a History professor to create a podcast on the connection between history and art named Lawcapes. I was able to make 2 podcast episodes during the summer being able to expand my knowledge of podcasting and interview skills to find people around cincinnati to talk about the artistic culture that lays here. I took lead on the second episodes that covered the Black Lives Matter protests along with the art that was created as a form of expression. I was able to talk to the lead artist that created the Black Lives Matter mural in front of city hall and understand why he wanted to be a part of the team. I was also able to talk to city councilman Scotty Johnson on his experience as a previous police officer now civil servant to the city of cincinnati. He was the lead on getting the funding for the restoration of the mural and making sure that the city would be able to supply these funds in the future so we can also remember its importance. I was able to make a 45 minute podcast on the interviews and the information that was able to discover about cincinnati. This experience impacted me because I was able to make connections with the people of cincinnati to understand why this was so important to them. I was also able to learn more about the connection between art, history and politics. I have the podcast linked under my portfolio page for people to listen to.
