Year in Review '22

I can’t believe that I am at the end of my first year in the honors program. When I got first admitted, I honestly was shocked at the result. Well, not really. I am a proud Turner Scholar and when it was mentioned during a meeting, I decided that this might be a good plan for me. And now that I am here, I am glad to say that I am happy to continue on this amazing journey. Since the start of the program, I have signed up for three honors experiences. All within one year of each other. The best part about them is that I am happy to be a part of them because I am having fun but also growing as a student. For example currently I am in the Honors Discover program working with Professor Karr on a podcast. Centered around law and how it intertwines with the things that we experience every day. I am doing the things that I love, talking to people, creating media content and exploring the city while working on my skills that could be useful in the future-working on audio, structuring media content for the audience interests and the community’s, and getting the well rounded story for show light on the possible injustices but the good that law in relation to the things we experience has been for Cincinnati. I had every intention to include this published podcast into my resume reel at the end of my undergraduate career because I want to show how at the beginning of this semester, my skills with audio has been questionable but with the help of some classes and this project as a whole, I have grown more but getting back into it. Even past the summer and without funding, I would love to continue with this project as it aligns with that I expect a global citizen scholar to do for her community. Other experiences include travel writing to Iceland and the Bennis Leadership seminar. The honors program has given me the opportunity to grow as a student and as a broadcast journalist. I am able to work on vital skills that will help me excel in the workforce but as a student leader on campus. I am currently a second time Vice President of Recruitment for my sorority and being an executive member has taught me so much in growth and how to lead a group of people down a path of success. Not only that, I am currently the Vice President of the Darwin T Turner program and I am excited to assist with the first year scholars and their path to be proud members of their communities. The leadership courses will help me lead my groups so I can help them and they in turn help me. Let year two in the honors program begin!
